3 busy happy Tamariki!

Queen's Birthday Celebration - Palmerston North - Eventfinda

Sunday 31st May 2020

Kia Ora Whanau

This week in room 16 we have been spending time learning  sight words I , A, am is, to.   Nivanah, Falcon and Jayden have been learning about the letters, Aa, Bb, Cc, Dd,and Ee.

Jayden received a certificate on Thursday because he has been showing a positive attitude to his learning.

It's been really awesome getting to know my tamariki again after  they came back to school at Alert Level 2.

Whaea Koryna has been coming into room 16 Tuesday-Friday  teaching us more Te Reo so we are all more confident while pronouncing new kupu words and phrases.

I captured some photos  this week of their learning:

Jayden looks very proud holding his certificate and Easter bunny.

Falcon and Jayden are practicing writing their name

The tamariki are using play dough  while learning new sight words.

Jayden learning the word is.

Nivanah learning to spell the word is.

This week in math, we have been learning about counting small animals and learning about the numbers 8 and 9.

Nivanah and Jayden completed a math puzzle around the numbers 0-20.

I hope you have a great Queens birthday weekend. I can't wait to see room 16 again  next Tuesday.

Welcome Nivanah to room 16

Kia Ora Whanau/Caregivers

This week has been a  interesting week in room 16 after coming back to school at Alert Level 2 after COVID 19. I have had one new entrant start in room 16. I have officially moved into Room 16.
All  the other tamariki are at home completing  their hard copy learning.

Nivanah began school on Tuesday, she had a great start to her schooling. I got to know Nivanah by finding out about her interests and what she loves to do. Nivanah loves bugs and is super keen to learn the alphabet and  she likes to draw  pictures about her family and cats!!

I captured some photos of Nivanah's first week of school:
Nivanah drew a story about  a girl and a wolf.

Nivanah is learning to write her name and learn the names of the letters  in her name.

Nivanah likes to play with the Elsa countdown tiles. She made groups of 1,2,3,4 and 5.

We were learning about the letter Ii today.

I hope to see more tamariki come back to school once the Alert Levels go down.

Have a great weekend

Tēnā koutou ē te whānau
On Monday 18th May, we will be ready to welcome all students and staff back to our school onsite.

As we have done in Alert Level 3, you can be assured that in Alert Level 2 we will know who is at school, who our staff and students have been in close contact with and take appropriate safety measures to keep everyone safe.
Physical distancing is a good precaution to prevent the spread of disease. We do however know it is challenging in schools, so good hygiene practices and regular cleaning are even more important here. This includes staff and students coughing into their elbows, handwashing and drying and regular cleaning of commonly touched surfaces.
Under Alert Level 2, we advise any students and staff to stay at home if they are sick, and we will send anyone home immediately if they show any symptoms.
Our school has safe and sensible practices to maintain the health and safety of everyone on the school site. As described by Dr Payinda in his NZ Herald article, “Covid's not measles or chickenpox, it doesn't hang in the air for hours waiting to infect passers-by. It travels on invisible drops of spit. You don't have to cross the street to avoid anyone. Just avoid getting in their 'moist breath' zone”. We all just need to remember to have some breathing space at Alert Level 2!

It’s important however that not just at school but at home, safe hygiene habits are practised by everyone, as this is essential to minimise the risk that someone gets infected with Covid-19. For more information about the public health measures at Alert Level 2, you can visit the covid19.govt.nz website: https://covid19.govt.nz/

If you have any questions about our health and safety plan, or have a child who might be vulnerable to serious illness and would like to discuss a plan for them, please contact me on 0275321713.

IMPORTANT: If you have recently changed your contact details please let the office know.

We have been at Alert Level 3 for 6 days  I have noticed there are more cars on the road and Mcdonalds has certainly been busier.

What makes you happy to be at Alert Level 3 ??

Mrs Wihongi will be at school every day  from 9-10.30 in case you missed getting a NEW learning pack!

It was great to catch up with London, Honor and Peter during the week on facetime. It was awesome to see  them and hear their voices!!

I was really impressed with the response I got back from my texts to room 14 whanau this week. I will do this every couple of days as it's a great way to stay connected with tamariki and whanau.

Pleas click on the link below  for week 4's learning.
