Week 9 antics...

Term 2, Week 9

Kia Ora Whanau

WOW!!!  only one week to go!!

This term has flown so quickly. This week I have been sick at home with a sore lower back  and recovering from when I fell over a week ago.   The teachers had a great first aid refresher course on Monday. Now we are up to speed with current practices.

I  had lovely teachers teaching in room 14 during my absence. Mrs Squires and Mrs Pearson. Thank you for  providing quality teaching while I was away.

On Friday I was happy to be back at school. My class were happy to see me also.

Shikyrah received a certificate this week for showing more care and kindness towards her peers. Freedom has adjusted with ease.

I captured some special moments on Friday.

Kip and Carlos were playing snap!!

Drezon, Javier and Lachie  playing nicely with each other

Shikyrah with her certificate for caring and being a kind friend to her peers.

Hayes used the domino's to stack a tower!

2019 Farm Trip To Ohaeawai

Term 2, Week 8

Kia Ora Whanau

Well our farm trip day has finally arrived!!  I was really excited, I think as much as the tamariki were.

We had Shikyrah's Nan, Marie, Catherine and Jessie. Without whanau support the trip would have not went ahead.  Thankyou to #schoolkit and DairyNZ for  funding  the school bus. All of the children received a FREE yellow safety vest and a anchor chocolate milk. Delicious!!

All children got into groups . They headed off happily to the bus and we drove to Ohaeawai which is only 10 minutes away.  The bus was filled with excited chatter and happy faces.

We had morning tea then were introduced to the owners of the farm and their workers.

The children went to 4 different areas of the farm.
The milking shed to see cows milked
To Feed the calves
To learn about grass to glass
Pooh pond and Learning why looking after the paddocks and rivers is essential.

All of room 14 and room 16 were highly engaged and asked lots of wondering questions!!

Duffy show at Kaikohe west school

Term 2, Week 7

Kia ora Whanau,

The weather this week at school has still been cold and chilly!!

The Duffy show came to kaikohe West School on Thursday!!  The actors were emphasizing the importance of enjoying reading and making sure reading becomes a passion for all.

Daily reading shows children benefit more and are more likely to show increased progress with support from home!!

This week we had world of Math at school on Tuesday. So many  tamariki  were engaged  and  liked experiencing math in a fun hands on practical way.  Thank you to Peter for Facilitation of  this exciting day.

Pererika was picked out of the yellow card box for being at school every day and for not getting on  traffic light.
Tavien received a reading certificate for becoming more engaged and for showing reading fluency.

Jam testing in action!!!

Term 2, Week 5

Kia Ora Whanau,

WOW!!  I can't believe we are half way through Term 2 already!!

Thank you so  much for supporting the teachers on Wednesday this week when the PPTA and NZEI joined forces to strike united together. Over 50,000  are committed to our children's learning.  Together we will make a difference.

This week I finished the Jam math assessment. I took some photos of Kip and Javier completing their tests.

Kip was  making an awesome algebra pattern. This pattern was his own idea.

Kip looking satisfied after completing  his Jam test

This is an action photo of Javier in action. He realized his algebra pattern was incorrect, so he changed it to make it correct.  Great thinking and problem solving Javier.

On Tuesday 18th June we are going to visit Suzanne Brock's dairy farm in Ohaeawai. I am sending out a letter this week to room 14 and 16 whanau. We will be looking for some whanau to assist us on the trip. Please see me if interested.

Have a great long weekend. I'll see you again on Tuesday. Take Care
