Kia Ora Whanau,

Planning is well underway for our whole school Noho in week 5. Room 15 with your permission will be sleeping at school on Wednesday 3rd March and getting picked up from school Thursday 4th March.

The Teina Kaiako have been busy planning lots of  exciting adventures and experiences. But we do need your help to make this a successful Noho for Kaikohe West School and Room 15.

A permission slip will be coming home next week, could you please read, sign it and return to school ASAP. Permission slips are due back  Monday 1st March. If you have any questions please get back to me ASAP.

On Thursday we had Whaea Hine come to speak to the Teina classes about what Asthma is and what are the triggers of Asthma.

This is whaea Hine with Sailor the Asthma  toy.
Room 15 were busy Painting in room 14 when I was taking the swimmers for a swim on Thursday afternoon. Mrs Neale had the non- swimmers.

The 6 triggers of Asthma are Pollen, Germs,  Viruses, Animal Fur, Dust mites and  Cold.

Please remember we have swimming on a Monday and Thursday. Last week I only had 3 Tamariki swimming. Swimming is an important part of the Health and Physical Education Curriculum.

Have a fabulous weekend.  Thanks again to the whanau that are hearing their child read each night and signing the reading log. It is very much appreciated.

Welcome back to term one 2021

It’s great to be teaching in Room 15 for another year, let’s get this year moving. I am excited to be back at school, it’s going to be a simply fabulous year. My name is Louise Birchall and I  will be your child’s kaiako in Room 15. I have been teaching at Kaikohe West for many happy years.  I look forward to getting to know your tamariki as we start to build relationships with one another.

Our term one focus is centred on getting to know your child. What their strengths are and what we can do to develop a teacher to child relationship.  Our unit of inquiry will be focusing on Ko Au. We will be establishing  routines this term so our learning will be easier to implement and the children will feel comfortable in their learning space. Learning through play will be connected  through all our curriculum areas!  We are planning a class trip away later in the year hopefully to Kelly Tartlon’s and the Zoo. I will keep you informed of further updates.

Your child will be bringing home their book bags Monday-Thursday and their poem book on a Friday. Basic sight words will be included, please read these on a daily basis. Your parental input is vital to a successful year of learning and achievement for your child. Teamwork= success!!

Sunhats are compulsory in term one. All tamariki will be required to wear a hat to protect themselves in these hot summer days.

I would really appreciate your support over the year, whatever you can do to support and motivate your child would be fantastic. Readers will be starting to go home from Week 3. Can you listen to your child read nightly please. This help would be tremendous.

FREE school lunches won’t be starting until term 2. I will keep you informed of what's happening. We are a health promoting school  so healthy food in their lunch boxes is recommended please. Healthy food means their brain’s are more focused and engaged and ready to learn.  If you have a water bottle at home can you please include this in their school lunch boxes. Water is encouraged to be sipped through the day at school as it keeps our bodies hydrated, focused and ready to learn.

Swimming days are Monday and Thursday.  Please ensure your child has a named towel, togs in a bag. Swimming caps are compulsory at Kura.  Library day is Wednesday. Let’s all work together and have a great year at Kaikohe West School. Our  growth mindset phrase for the year is Be kind, Be brave, Be awesome.

If you have any questions please come in and hang out with us in Room15. We have an open door policy at school and always a hot cup of tea!!
