Delicious wood fired Pizza's!!!

Wow!! I can't believe it, there's ONLY 5 DAYS to go until we finish school next Friday 11th December 2020.

It's been such a strange year. I started off 2020 in Room 14 and ended up after lockdown in Room 16.

It's been an absolute honor  to have been given the responsibility to teach your precious tamariki for 2020. I have loved watching their growth as learners.

Next Tuesday 8th December is our school prizegiving. ALL whanau are warmly invited. it starts at 11am. Hope to see you there.


On Friday Papa Pappy and Winston  fired up the Pizza Oven, the burning wood smelled amazing!!

Nanny Rachel and Whaea Shayna were fabulous helpers. Nanny Rachel made home made Pizza bases,  then the tamariki were put into groups and  the preparation for the Pizza's started.

The Tamariki had the choice of chopped onion, Ham, Bacon, Pineapple, Spaghetti and lots of grated Cheese!!!


                                            Norton and Tari-Ape received their certificates for  bring a friendly                                                            student in class and for having a positive attitude towards learning!!
                                            Drea, Cruize, Silas,Aalacaey and Waimirirangi eating their yummy home                                                  made Pizza's.
                                             Revere, Tari-Ape, Norton,Heliem and Kingston enjoyed eating their Pizza.
                                             Che'la was happy to eat her Pizza!!
                                            Jayziah loved being in charge of making, cooking and eating his Pizza.


ONLY 19 days until Christmas. Our last day of school for 2020 is Friday 11th December.

First day of  school for 2021 is Tuesday 2nd February.

Proud Tamariki!

Well we have nearly made it. Only 2 weeks to go and we finish school for 2020. It has certainly been a very different year. I'm sure we  are all happy to see this year come to an end.





Che'la, Aalacaey and Kowhai were super proud to  receive their certificates this week.

Che'la received her certificate for always displaying a happy personality.

Aalacaey for making huge progress in math  while completing his Jam math test.

Kowhai for showing progress while learning the letter names and sounds of the alphabet.


Next Week we  are having an exciting week at school. On Monday we are having a FUN DAY and on Wednesday we are off to sing some waiata to the Kaumata and Kuia at Kaikohe Aged Care Centre. Please remember to bring your permission slip back to school ASAP!!

Certificates and swimming

On Friday room 16 went swimming for the first time!! All the tamariki were so confident and  got into the water safely. Everyone listened  to all the instructions and put their head under the water. 


Silas forgot his togs so he dipped his toes into the water!!  Swimming days are Wednesday and Friday.



Kingston and Sean received  certificates this week for making happy pleasing progress in reading and for showing positive attitudes towards their learning.

Please remember to  return your permission  slips ASAP for our trip to the  Kaikohe Retirement Village on Wednesday 2nd December 2020.

The weather is getting warmer so I'm hoping by the end of next week we can start swimming. Our swimming days are Wednesday and Friday afternoons from 2-3pm.

Can you please double check  their swimming bag  they have appropriate swimming togs, towel, Swimming Cap all in a named bag please!!  Thank you so much this  will make it all so much easier to organize.


This week we were learning about the letter Bb. Jayziah and  Tookie made the letter B  from green playdough. Both boys were engaged and had lots of fun.


Whaea Raewyn from Room 12 wanted everyone to take a class photo for the year book. On Thursday this week we had 19 out of 22 Tamariki at school only Aalacaey, Norton and Zydin were absent.


A MASSIVE congratulations to  Waimirirangi, Cruize, Jayziah, Tookie, Silas and Luchiano. These tamariki came to School every day this week and were on time. Keep up the great attendance.


Room 16 is so lucky to have Nanny Rachel come and support the tamariki with learning their alphabet , basic sight words and being read to every day. I so appreciate her support every day. The Tamariki LOVE having Nanny Rachel helping us become more responsible for our learning!!

100% Attendance for room 16 tamariki

Well I am super proud of all the tamariki that come to school every day in room 16 and especially if they turn up on time ready to learn.


From the beginning of week 3 we are now acknowledging  all the tamariki that come to school  every day and especially those that come to school on time. For their reward they get a delicious cold ice block on Monday lunchtime!


This week we had   Aalacaey, Reign, Jayden,Norton and Cruize come to school every day. Thank you whanau for making sure tamariki are turning up on time with their lunch, book bag and a good learning attitude!!  Well done to these 5 special tamariki.


I wonder how many more tamariki will be having 100% attendance this week??


Swimming will be starting  next week once the water warms up. I will send a note home to whanau later in the week. We will be swimming on Wednesday and Friday from 2.00-3.00pm.

Tamariki will need a swimming bag, towel,  swimming togs and a swimming cap.

Happy Halloween to you all!!

I hope everyone has had a great week.  Over the last 3 weeks room 16 has  6 new tamariki enrolled  in our class.

I would like to take this opportunity to  warmly welcome  Virginia, Heilem, Reign, Silas, Zydin                                                                                          and Revere.



Casey and Reign received  certificates this week . Casey for having a positive attitude to learning and  Reign for  welcome to our school and room 16.


I hope everyone received their term 4  class newsletter this week. I put it in their book bag on Thursday. If you have any further questions please come and see me.


Packing a healthy lunch box is particularly important to your child's focus in the classroom and learning. Please don't put any  unhealthy food in their lunch box's especially the carton fruit juices. They contain a lot of hidden sugar .

Kaikohe West School is a health promoting school and we want out tamariki to eat healthy and be healthy.

Little Garden League

This week room 16 have been busy learning about  little gardens from New World. On Friday we  planted our little Gardens.  All the tamariki showed lots of enthusiasm  as we read about all the vegetables and flowers we planted.

On Wednesday Hillcrest Kindergarten  brought  their 4 year olds for a school visit. It was great to see lots of smiley happy faces.

I wonder what plant will sprout first??

Swimming wont be  starting until the weather becomes warmer around mid November. I will send  a note home  closer to the time.

                                             what we had achieved together as a class.

Welcome back to term 4

I hope everyone has had a fantastic holiday and everyone is ready  to zoom into term 4. Whaea Shayna is working in room 16 this term to support  all Tamariki. I would like to welcome back Jayden and his whanau to room 16,  He was away for term 3, It's fantastic to see him back ready to learn.

Room 16 is growing rapidly, I would like to welcome Revere, Zydin and Silas to our class.


This week we spent the first week adjusting back  to school and going over rules, routines and expectations of learning and behaviour. 


I captured some exciting photos through the week.

                                             Kowhai is very proud to show everyone  of her mahi.
Revere, Zydin and Jayden are proud to show of their  weekly certificates!!





Waimirirangi is becoming  such a confident learner.

                                            Aalacaey  is developing lots of confidence as a learner.
                                             Drea  shows he can form the letter K   easily!!


Swimming is starting for the school next week but the Teina Tamariki wont  start swimming until the water becomes much warmer.

Now that the elections is over I wonder how the  Labour  Party  can support Whanau in Northland??

Happy Holidays Room 16

Well we made it to FRIDAY week 10. I was  super proud of all the Teina  Tamariki that performed on stage on Wednesday for our whanau and Thursday to be filmed "Live" on Facebook.


All of room 16 tried their very best, smiled and put  120%  effort into their stage performances!! Kapa Haka  will never  shine like this one did!!


Revere started school on Thursday. She was so confident. Revere was given awhi from her big brother Jayden!!

Che'la and Jayziah received  their class certificates on Thursday. Both tamariki have tried very hard to be focused on their mahi and are learning to be helpful to their friends in room 16! Keep up the great learning attitudes.

Tari-Ape, Sean and Cruize received their FREE  duffy books this week after they got their 10 Mana  card Aroha ticks.

Aalacaey and Drea had so much fun today. Both boys worked so well together and  complete a train alphabet. It was fantastic to see  both Akonga supporting each other and gaining alphabet knowledge  through a relaxing and stimulating conversation!


I hope everyone has a superb two week holiday  because I know we all deserve it.
The first day of the new term is Monday 12th October 2020.

Successful and happy Tamariki !!

Well the countdown is on to the end of term 3, only ONE week to go!!


All the tamariki have been practicing really hard and are committed to putting in 110% effort into  their performance .


On Monday we are having another school practice. Then on Wednesday  we are inviting all the whanau  to come along for a 12 0'clock performance  to show case our Kapa Haka  for everyone to watch.


THEN on Thursday it's the real performance, Maori television will be taping the tamariki's performance.


Thank you all the whanau that have brought  in the girls plain black T-shirt and  the boys black shorts and T-shirt.  The tamariki will take home their clothes after Thursday's performance.


If you ever have any questions or concerns please come and see me FIRST so we can sort out any issues!!  Thank you for supporting  your Tamariki during term 3.


Tookie and Waimirirangi received  certificates this week for  demonstrating a positive growth mindset to their learning.

Free Lunch Thursday!!

All of the Teina classes have been very busy preparing for the Cultural Festival Thursday 24th  September 2020.


The Girls are required to bring to school from Monday a plain Black T-shirt

The Boys are required to bring a plain black T-shirt and a pair of black shorts  by next Thursday please.


On Thursday this week  the whole school was treated to Spaghetti and Mince with Cheese sprinkled on top and a yummy spider drink. All of room 16 ate all there  delicious lunch . No one left anything in their  bowls. Thank you very much to Whaea Chanelle and Whaea Mazaria for making lunch for us!!

Next Thursday  the school are being treated to hamburgers for lunch. 


All of Room 16 have full Tummies!!


Kowhai and Tari-Ape received class certificates this week for showing enthusiasm for learning and  having a positive attitude to their mahi.


Next Thursday the whole school are having a dress rehearsal for the Cultural Festival it will be facebook  "Live" for all whanau to watch from home as a practice from 11-12 O'clock.

I can't believe how quickly this term is flying. We only have 3 weeks left of term 3!!

Spring is finally here, its great to see lots of little spring lambs frolicking  in the sun and yellow daffodils blooming in the lush green paddocks.

Room 16 are making huge progress  as we practice every day for our Kaikohe West Cultural  Festival. It is planned for Thursday 24th September.

We have only 3 more weeks till performance day and all the effort and hard work of the tamariki to learn the words and actions to their waiata is showing. They have done a tremendous job and we are all very proud of them.

Kingston and Aalacaey  received certificates this week for showing lots  improved progress as a reader and for always having a positive attitude to their learning.

Cruize finally gets to wear his flash NEW glasses to school!!

Jayziah was excited on Friday. He meet Constable Xavier. Jayziah wanted to try on his handcuffs.

Constable Xavier and Jayziah had  fun hanging  out at school on Friday.


I have been busy testing room 16 Tamariki . We have completed some of their 5 year net tests.

Quite a few of the tamariki I tested have learnt to read and recognise  many letters of the Alphabet. Hopefully we manage to get some lovely sunny weather  before the end of this term.
