Christmas is nearly here!!

I can't believe only 2 weeks to go!!!  Next week we have parent/teacher  interviews on Tuesday  6th  December from 3.30-6.30.

We are going to visit Santa's Ghotto on Monday morning. Life Education has been here, The children are learning  about that are the 9 things that make us healthy and why friendships are special.

Some of the tamariki in Room 8 are involved in the Kaikohekohe  sports day on Tuesday 6th and Wednesday 7th.

Christmas Excitement and Peanut fun!!!

Term 4, Week 7

Dear whanau/Caregivers.
If any of you missed out about the up and coming class trips in week 8, here it is!!

Dear Whanau/Parents/Grandparents

As the end of the year is approaching  rapidly, room 8 is planning a class trip next week. Throughout next week week 8. From Monday 28th to Friday 2nd December we will be planning on taking a walk  down to santa’s grotto, in the old Mitre 10 building. This walk will be dependent on the weather.

We will also be having a walk up monument hill to look at the amazing monument and take in some of the beautiful sights of Kaikohe.

If you do not require your child to be included in these excursions please let me know ASAP.

You are more than welcome to join us if you are able to.

WE had a really exciting day with Peanut in the classroom on Wednesday, next week I will post some photos. Our waiata performance was fantastic on Friday. Thankyou to all the whanau that supported us.

The Kaikohe christmas parade was amazing today, thank you to Matua Gus and whaea Te ruru for organising the float.

TBall skills and certificate excitement!!

Term 4, week 6

Kia Ora whanau

Araho mai, last week I forget to put up a post, I have been very busy completing assessment on your tamariki and starting to write reports. The great news is only 1 report to go!!!  I am so proud of all the tremendous work all the tamariki have achieved over the year. Everyone has been working very hard to achieve these pleasing results.

This week we had Feron Rogers from the Bay Marlins come and spend some time with our Kaikohe west TBall children.  He has been working on developing there throwing and catching skills.

Ariana was really lucky to get her name pulled out of the white card box!!!  Room 8 were really excited for her

Peanut my little Papillion is coming to school for the day next Wednesday. All of Room 8 are so excited and can't wait!!  I am excited also, I hope Peanut is.  I will post photos of Peanuts visit next week.

Our waiata performance is next Friday the 25th November. I hope to see lots of whanau there supporting there tamariki.  We are singing Purei Nei. Everyone is learning the new waiata really easily.

Thank you also to Feron for coming in and spending time with our beautiful children. Everyone did benefit from his one on one coaching!!

Halloween fun!!

Term 4, Week 4

We have had another fantastic week. I was away sick on Tuesday and Mrs Woods was relieving for me in room 8. She commented how awesome and well behaved the tamariki were. Everyone was very focused and finished their learning on time.  Thank you Room 8 you guys are the best and most of all you showed absolute respect to a special teacher, Mrs Woods.

We start swimming on Tuesday and Thursdays  from week 6.  Please remind your child to all bring their togs. It is a requirement for all children to be part of our  swimming sessions. 

This week we had the pleasure of Te Mana Haa joining our class.  She has fitted in perfectly!!!  Monique this week turned 6, room 8 made her a delicious chocolate cake.

BUSY, BUSY and EXTRA BUSY

Term 3, week 3

I can't believe 3 weeks down and 7 weeks to go!!!  We finish school on the 16th December.

There is alot going on in Room 8. Maika has joined our class from Gladstone school in Auckland. He has settled well into his new routines. He has made friends with Tyrone and Vaughan!!

It is Monique's 6th birthday on Monday 31st October and  we are having a dress up day at school on Monday to help celebrate Halloween. We are going to make white ghosts also.- Yum Yum

Swimming will be starting week 5- Monday 7th November.  Please put their togs and towel in a plastic bag so nothing gets lost.

The Waimate North show is coming up on Saturday 12th November.

Brooke Neal's visit

Last Wednesday we had the most amazing visitor come to Kaikohe west school.  Brooke Neal a NZ hockey black stick player came and spoke to our whole school about  hockey and her experience at the Rio Olympics.

Brooke spoke about Olympic values which are Excellence, Friendship and Respect.

Welcome back to term 4

Term 4, Week 1

Welcome back to term 4.  I will share my class letter with you so everyone knows what is happening this term.




Dear Parents/Whanau

Welcome back to term  4. I can’t believe we are at the end of the year already and there is only 10 weeks to go until the end of 2016.

This term is very busy  and we have lots of exciting things planned. Swimming will be starting in a few weeks time once the water gets warmer. Please ensure your child has their togs in a plastic bag along with their towel. We have swimming caps at school as well.

We will be planning an end of year trip  more details to come soon.  This term our Inquiry focus is connected to the world. Room 8 are going to be investigating how as a school we  connect to the world by using technology and by generating questions that further explain how we can show what makes our class amazing.

I would really appreciate your continued support to listen to your child read each night, please record their learning in the reading log. Some tamariki already have read nearly 75 nights in a row!!  Please remember they need to bring their book bag to school each day.

Chocolate cake frenzy and fun math activities

Term 3, Week 8

We have had another busy week, with only one week to go until holidays.  This week we had Ray Bishop come and speak at our Duffy Assembly, he has been on TV, and he sang us a Bob Marley song.

This week we have been using materials to solve 2x Tables, Terence, Wakaroa and Monique  were  pretty impressive with their problem solving capabilities.  DannaMarie made a yummy chocolate cake with Whaea Lee on Wednesday.

Tinfoil Sculputures

Term 3, Week 7

Wow, another fantastic week. I was away Monday and Tuesday this week and all the tamariki were so well behaved, thank you for displaying great behaviour and learning for Mrs Pearson.

This week we were finishing up looking at Rio Olympics 2016, we were experimenting making Olympians from tinfoil. some of them came out really well. It was quite tricky working with tinfoil as it is a different art medium. Vaughan made the most amazing sculputure of an Olympian cycling.

I have just finished writing reports for this term. We are having our report afternoon from 3.30-6.30 Tuesday 20th September. I will send a note home early net week to let you know what tamariki are getting reports.  Just ring the main office for a time, Thanks.

Room 8 had the most fabulous mat manners at assembly on Friday. Matua Kevin and Mrs Smith even commented at Assembly!!!  I was a very proud teacher, so hard work, praise, encouragement and effort does pay off in the end.

Successful Achievement for everyone!!

Term 3, Week 6

Kia Ora Whanau

This week a very special girl called DannaMarie  achieved success. She was able to order the numbers from 1-5. I felt very proud of her. Room 8 supports DannaMarie every day with her learning, I wanted to share this amazing achievement with everyone. She can also spell and recognise the word IS!!!


Super other children achieved success by moving up 2 reading levels, well done to Benjamin and Terence, Both of you both are becoming  confident risk taking readers.

I hope all the Fathers have a fantastic Father's day on Sunday.  The tamarki made  some wonderful cards and we entered a Father's day  colouring competition  sponsored by the Kaikohe Pioneer Village. The children had to write a few sentences describing .....  My Dad is a great dad because...  the responses were amazing!!!!

Clever Room 8 Tamariki!!

Term 3, Week 5

Kia Ora Whanau,

Room 8 have had a lot of Assessment tasks to complete this week. I have tested the children for Running Records, Burt Reading Test and Peters spelling Test.

My whole class was amazing they allowed  everyone mainly peace and quiet when it was their turn to complete their testing with me.

Well done to everyone who moved up reading groups!!!

Jump Jam Experts

Term 3, Week 4

We have had another busy week at school. On Friday at assembly all the Jump Jammers from Room 8 performed on stage with the rest of the crew. They performed FREAK.  I would like to say well done to everyone  and especially to Tyrone and Harley. Both of you  were in tune to the music and very co-ordinated.

It is Interschool Cross Country on Wednesday the 24th August from 10.20.  We wish Benjamin, Marie, Wakaroa and Harley all the best and encourage them to strive to do their absolute best!!

Room 8 Cross Country Champions!!

Term 3, Week 3

WOW, what an amazing day we had at Cross Country on Thursday. I was such a proud Teacher of everyone in Room 8!!  Everyone did extremely well and we all look forward to running at Ohaeawai Cross Country on 24th August 2016.

We had some fantastic results.
Benjamin came 1st in the 6 year old boys
Maria came 2nd in the 6 year old girls
Wakaroa came 2nd in the 7 year old boys
Harley came 3rd in the 7 year old boys also.

We trained as a class extremely hard to achieve these unbelievable results.

Room 8 are Keeping Fit!!

Term 3, Week 3

This week is our offical Cross Country on Thursday 11th August, at 10.30 Let's hope the weather improves before then.We have been working with Whaea Gina  to improve our fitness levels, so  we are breathing faster  and our heart is beating quicker so the blood is pumping around our body quicker.

Whaea Gina gave us a challenge to see exercise what we can do at home. This is the exercise that Room 8 did!!

Stevie- Ray- I ran up the road with my brother
Wakaroa- I did 100 Pushup's
Maria- I bounced up and down on my tramp- 64 times
Alicia- I ran up and down the driveway 3 times
Monique- Sprinting down the hallway- 34 times
Anahera R- I climbed up my door
Paytonn- Running with my Dad and Dog
Tyrone- Jumping up and down 99 times
Bevan- skipping on the spot 60 times
Harley- I sprinted around my tramp 10 times

I am very proud of my class, for their amazing efforts to keep getting fitter and healthier for Cross Country on Thursday.

Welcome back to Term 3!!!!  Room 8’s newsletter for this term is about reinforcing what we are learning about, up and coming events and how you can support your child to be the best that they can be.

Our Inquiry focus this term is connected to community, we will be having a mini Olympics later in the term. We will be looking at the Rio Olympics, questions  will be  generated by the tamariki, so their inquiry will be more meaningful and child centered.

Our school cross country will be taking place Thursday 11th August. Times will be confirmed closer to the time, it would be lovely to see you at school cheering and encouraging your child to try their best.

Explain Everything Writing

Term 2, Week 9

This week Tyrone used the Explain Everything App  to show how we made Bread Cases during our week of celebrating Matariki with Kai. He did an exceptional job. A special thank you to Raewyn Ritchie, for showing us how to embed  his work in  our blog.  We have NO school next Friday the 8th July as it is Teachers only day.   Tyrone even showed Mrs Ritchie  something she didn't know - Well done Tyrone for sharing your learning with other amazing Teachers also!!!!!!!!

Next Wednesday the 6th July we are having a shared lunch from 12.30, to celebrate Matariki and the end of term 2 ending successfully. Please come and join us to have a kai with your child.

Writing Thank you letters

Just a quick update for this week.  We have Parent/Teacher Interviews on Tuesday 28th June from 3.30-7.00. It would be fantastic to see as many Parents as possible there to discuss your child's learning!!

Jade wrote a fantastic letter to say Thank you to Mainfreight last week. Shadae is learning to remember all the 7 sisters of Matariki, she is doing some lovely Mahi to portray this.

Highlights from week 7

We have had a really busy week in room 8, from  Cooking, Inspired writing, Art and Maths.

Here is the amazing evidence of our learning this week from my beautiful class.

Creativity, A police visit and happy children

We have had an action packed  week with A visit from Constable Rob, children being creative at lunchtime - since we have had so much rain and  creativity thriving in the playdough area.

I hope everyone is keeping up the daily reading log over the weekend. The children get so excited when they get a sticker for every night they have read in a row!!!
